SECHSELÄUTEN – ZURICH’S SPRING FESTIVAL

On 8 April 2019, around 3,500 guilds in colourful costumes and traditional clothing, together with horse-drawn wagons, will be moving across Bahnhofstrasse to Sechseläutenplatz in front of Zurich Opera House. A snowman figure, the so-called Böögg, is burnt there to ring in the summer. The legend of the Zurich people is saying that the faster the head of the so-called Böögg explodes, the more beautiful and warmer the upcoming summer will be.

This parade is one of the most spectacular major events in Zurich and attracts thousands of spectators to the city of Zurich every year. The parade starts at 3pm. At 6pm the burning of the Böögg starts on the Sechseläutenplatz. Don’t miss this event!
